In 1990 Michael Valitutti commenced in business as Surfers Paradise Locksmiths. He operated from a mobile locksmith van for eight years, and in 1999 Michael asked Vince Todarello who had over 15 years experience as a locksmith to join him as a partner. Together they opened a retail outlet and workshop in the Centre Arcade at Surfers Paradise.
The Gold Coast has always had a vibrant construction industry, and to be part of that, they opened an Architectural Hardware outlet in year 2000.
Des Bell and Lee Pearmain with over 30 years experience in the architectural hardware industry managed this section of the business, and their office and showroom were in the Dolphin Arcade in the heart of Surfers Paradise.
Vince Ransom with over 15 years locksmithing experience was invited to be a partner in 2002, and now heads the successful and expanding Locksmith Service section.
As SPL won the confidence of the major builders and developers in South East Queensland, business activity grew rapidly. We were soon supplying most new developments in the local region with locks, keying systems and door hardware, and by the end of 2003 the company had outgrown their Surfers Paradise premises.
In February 2004 SPL purchased and built its own purpose built facility at "SPL House", 101 Ashmore Road Bundall. The building was awarded "Best renovated building design under $2 million" in 2004 by the Master Builders Association.
